Vehicle Comparison

Mercedes vs Alphard Bali: Honest Comparison

Which Bali vacation car is right for your party — the Mercedes-Benz S-Class executive sedan, or the Toyota Alphard Executive Lounge MPV?

In Short

Both vehicles are flagships in their category. The S-Class is the quietest cabin in our fleet; the Alphard is the most practical for families. The right choice depends on party size, luggage, and itinerary — not on which is “more luxurious.”

Where the S-Class wins

Where the S-Class wins

AIRMATIC air suspension absorbs highway surface irregularities better than any non-Maybach vehicle in this segment. The cabin noise floor sits roughly 5 dB below the Alphard at highway cruise. Rear seats add heating, ventilation, and massage to reduce long-haul stiffness, and the Burmester 3D surround creates a sanctuary atmosphere.

It is the right vehicle for a couple on a long-haul recovery transfer arriving at The Apurva Kempinski, Bulgari, Aman, Mandapa, Capella, or Four Seasons Sayan.

Where the S-Class falls short

The boot fits two large suitcases comfortably and three at the limit. Ride height is low enough that village speed bumps require care. Only two passengers fit in the rear lounge layout, and child-seat installation is more constrained than the Alphard.

Where the Alphard wins

Twin captain chairs in the second row, footrests, and a high cabin let you stand to load children and luggage. Twin sliding electric doors eliminate clearance issues at narrow villa entrances. Capacity climbs to four large suitcases plus three carry-ons plus two strollers, with a third-row bench for a family of two adults and three children.

Taller suspension takes village speed bumps without scraping — meaningful when half a day’s itinerary involves Ubud or Uluwatu lanes.

The hybrid approach

For trips of seven or more nights, the most refined option is to book the S-Class for airport legs — where arrival impression matters — and the Alphard for family day tours, where cabin space matters more than air suspension. The cost difference over a week is modest; the vehicle fit becomes optimal.
